Jake Wins Scholarship to IIT, Chicago, USA

Leaving his comfort zone, Jake heads for a new adventure in Chicago, winning a scholarship to follow his dreams playing football full time for the Hawks at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT).

Valued and respected at Football Focus Holiday Clinics, with an infectious enthusiasm for the game many players aspired to Jake's ability whilst also having a ball. Jake assisted Jason with selection of the successful South Zone Team for the 2007 State Talent Identification Championships - they finished runners up.

Training daily, with matches up to 3 times a week during the season, the Hawks compete in the NAIA Div 1 and compete in the Chicagoland conference. The prospect of achieving a Business Management Degree in pursuit of his dreams on the football pitch will be the icing on the cake.

Jake has played football (also called soccer in America) since the age of 7, playing first for Geelong Rangers, then Cumberland United for all bar one season, most recently playing for the Under 23's reserves. He has represented Noarlunga Districts Junior Soccer Association (NDJSA) for the State Junior Championships (school championships), and the Southern Zone in State Championships (club championships). Additional hilights include being a 3 times cup finalist, winning once with CUFC U17s, scoring in the U19s final and receiving man of the match.

Everyone at Football Focus wishes Jake the very best in pursuit of dreams and happiness with much fun and laughter along the way. We hope to see him playing Major League Soccer like David Beckham or Australia's A League one day soon.

South Zone Success at State Talent Identification Championships

Coaching the South Zone Under 11 Team for the second year in succession Jason was delighted with his team's performance at Para Hills in October 2007.

Finishing Runners Up to the East Zone, the team were satisfied that South Zone were the only team to defeat the East during the U11's competition.

Selected f rom an initial 48 players, the final 16 represented six Southern Clubs.

Football Focus - Building our European Football Academy Alliance

We travelled to Europe to some of the best junior football academies in England and  Holland. Thank you to Rob Baan, our very own Technical Director, for his assistance  with our Dutch tour.

Dutch legend Stanley Valckx, Technical Manager at PSV Eindhoven, played with world greats like Romario and Ronaldo. Stan met us at De Herdgang, PSV's impressive training and Academy facilities and explained how Dutch junior football is structured. We toured Philips Stadium and travelled to Rotterdam to Feyenoord's Academy to understand how juniors are groomed and developed until they are ready to try out for the first team. Observing players from 7 –14 year olds training, it was plain to see how tactically aware even the youngest players are, passing into space, holding position with impressive movement off the ball.

High lights from Premier League academies at Aston Villa FC and Bolton Wanderers FC include watching Martin O’Neill training with the first team, a tour of Aston Villa's amazing new facilities at Bodymoor Heath and a visit to Reebok Stadium. Our players talked with Chris Sulley, BWFC Academy Manager, about Adelaide United and Olyroos players, Nathan Burns and Bruce Djite and were most impressed to see Manchester United legend Denis Irwin, watching the Under 14s play at the stadium.

Thank you to all the clubs for your time and hospitality.

Our knowledge of the European junior structure, training and tactics, scouting and junior player contracts will benefit our own young players.

It is our intention to send those showing promise from our Elite Squad, to these overseas academies. Please remember our Elite Squad is by invitation only.
